This Blog is my Tribute to Tears For Fears, one of the most respected bands in the music business.
Tears For Fears is Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith.
The name Tears For Fears was inspired by primal therapy, developed by the American psychologist Arthur Janov, who gained fame after John Lennon became Janov’s patient in 1970.
Tears For Fears are an exacting band with high music production standards. That also makes them not exactly the most prolific band in the business.
Tears For Fears only has eight album releases of which seven are studio albums and one is live album (with five studio tracks). Two of the studio albums are without Curt Smith. “Songs For A Nervous Planet”, their latest double CD release is part studio (5) and part live concert songs (18).
Excessive touring scarred the band, like all ambitious up-and-coming bands (with greedy managers), they should have taken well-earned sabbaticals from touring and especially from each other. But hindsight is always 20/20.
“The Hurting” (1983)
“Songs from the Big Chair” (1985)
“The Seeds of Love” (1989)
“Elemental” (1993) – without Curt Smith
“Raoul and the Kings of Spain” (1995) – without Curt Smith
“Everybody Loves a Happy Ending” (2004)
“The Tipping Point” (2022)

In 2021, Orzabal and Smith were honoured with the Ivor Novello Award for “Outstanding Song Collection” recognising their “era-defining Tears For Fears albums” and “critically acclaimed hit singles”.
