Good Bedside Manners

When you have embodied good Bedside Manners, you will dream Sweeter Dreams, you will live Happier Lives.

Good Bedside Manners enables you to wake up Fresh and Happy and be a Blessing to Others in the Up-Coming Day!

Good Bedside Manners originated from the fact that, as a medical professional, Doctors should have good bedside manners in putting their Patients at trusted ease.

In this blog, I extrapolated this thought to include All of Us. Why can’t everyone of us (we are, after all, Doctors) have good bedside manners towards those (Patients) around us.

Some days we are Doctors who lend helping hands to others.

Sometimes we are Patients, need a reciprocal helping hand from our friends.

What goes around, comes around.

Good Bedside Manners include skills like being a good, active listener, having attentive eye contacts, exercise discretion, be non-judgmental, be non-condescending, show empathy and compassion, etc.

Always be seated – at level or lower than the person you’re consoling or counseling. Never stand over the person giving off the air of superiority or adopting a know-it-all aura. Standing also gives off the impression that you are rushing off somewhere soon and not being sincere in helping the person.

Bad Bedside Manners include dismissive, disinterested, condescending, distracted, rude dispositions.

I just returned from a family vacation to a fascinating metropolis I have never been before. To get around, I employed my usual two most crucial universal language skills1) eye contact and 2) a broad smile. No Google translate needed. The locals returned my smiles and were happy to help. Some even extended kind discounts to me for their cool goods.

Cheer Up – Yourself first, then Others around you! You can’t cheer others up with a wicked heart or be in a grouchy mood.

Sometimes, no words are required – a warm and sincere “I See You” gesture (above image) is enough to warm someone’s lonely heart.
