This is my Tribute to the die-hard Tribes that go to Concerts to watch their Music Heroes perform. I don’t always point my lens towards the stage. When the tense scene behind me is overwhelming, I will turn my lens towards the frenzied Crowd (Tribe) behind me.
Tribes are Communities who share blood ties, a common language, band T-shirts, have favourite song lists in their heads, coordinated head-banging rituals and moshing war dances.
I once cheekily shouted “Oi, you! In the black T-shirt!” at a Metallica concert. You don’t want to be seen wearing a red shirt at a Metallica concert.
“Mystical Blue Crowd” (above image). I love this panoramic tribal shot.

“They Move As One” (above image). BUT there’s one rocker that coincidentally chose to look directly into my lens. For a split-second, we had that connection. Can you spot him?
“The Ultimate Tribal Shot” – Joey Jordison of Slipknot and his Maggots. This image is featured in Slipknot’s “Live 9:0” live double CD album. R.I.P. Joey!
Always great when a Japanese member of the Scorpions tribe gives me a Massage before the concert starts (above image). I love concert crowds, they are laser-focused on having an awesome, rocking time.
Billy Joe Armstrong of Green Day amidst his die-hard tribe (above image).
Shawn “Clown” Crahan of Slipknot heals his Maggot tribe (above image).
Gary Cherone of Extreme tames his frenzy tribe (above image).
Rob Zombie goes into his sea of tribe (above image).
Gareth Davis of Funeral For A Friend and his “Friend” amidst a sea of tribal FOAF fans (above image).
Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons draws strength from his tribe (above image).
The ultimate Tribe – the Rolling Stones (above image), who has been releasing albums and playing concerts for the past six decades. That concert night, they were joined by their former lead guitarist, Mick Taylor. Just like the good old days when Taylor scattered guitar magic into these songs, “Jumping Jack Flash”, “Honky Tonk Women”, “Street Fighting Man”, “Gimme Shelter”, “Midnight Rambler” and “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking”.
There will be One who rises from the Crowd (above image).
“Your One Thing” (above image). May you discover your “One Thing”.
“Reaching For the Sun” (above image) at a Nine Inch Nails concert.
After an awesome concert, Extreme bids a Fond Good Night to their appreciative Tribe (above image).
