This is my Birthday Tribute blog in honour of one of the most pioneering, innovative, influential and respected musicians of all time – Miles Davis.
Born Miles Dewey Davis III (1926-1991), 2026 marks Miles’ 100th birthday.
Happy 100th Birthday, Miles Davis!
Miles Davis led the way forward in classical and cool jazz. He later explored modal jazz, avant-garde jazz, and jazz fusion. In his subsequent years, he made his foray – into rock, funk, bebop and hip-hop.

My Miles Davis CD Collection (above image). Patiently acquired over the decades, some CDs are still sealed, awaiting eventual appreciation.
I am personally drawn towards his latter “electric jazz” period, 1968-1975, where he abandoned traditional acoustic jazz for jazz-rock fusion, incorporating electric instruments, funk rhythms and studio experimentations.
Check out “Bitches Brew” (1970), “Jack Johnson” (1971), “In A Silent Way” (1969), “On The Corner” (1972), “Live-Evil”, “Filles de Kilimanjaro” (1968) – in my order of CD album favourites.
Miles Davis‘ “electric jazz” period is akin to Bob Dylan’s “Dylan Goes Electric” phase.

More Miles Davis Live CD Albums Arrived on 24 February 2026 (above image). I am buying up Miles’ “electric period” live albums that I missed in the past. Aged 48 years old, during a three-week tour of Japan, Miles Davis performed two concerts at the Festival Hall in Osaka on 1 February 1975. The “Agharta” double album CD features the afternoon concert and the “Pangaea” double album CD features the evening concert. The “Dark Magus” double album CD features the Miles’ concert at Carnegie Hall, New York City on 30 March 1974.

These Two Bad Boys Just Arrived on 2 March 2026 (above image). “Miles At The Fillmore” and “Live Around The World”.
