Jackets : Sartorial Armour

This is a fun Blog on Jackets. I love my Jackets acquired over the years since my college days in the USA. My second skin if you will.

A Jacket is the last thing an Equatorial (one degree, 17 minutes North) man needs in hot and humid Singapore. As I always tell my visiting rock star friends, there are two weathers in Singapore: hot and hotter. It is not surprising that Singapore has one of the highest air-conditioning densities in the world. I wear my jackets for air-conditioned events and when I travel to cool or cold countries.

A Jacket, the outermost layer of clothing, is your physical barrier to the world. It is the first thing people see of you. It sends a message, may it be a cool, impressive or non-threatening one.

The following are a portion of my fun jackets. Yes, I do love my ocean-breeze Blues.

Different broods for my different moods.

My Travelling Superdry Leather Jacket (above image). The portrait of a Happy Hobo, with leather jacket and cool blue camo scarf. With a decent red wine in hand and amazing Italian lasagna, I’m serenely set to witness the whirl to go by my cosy, alfresco vantage point. Nice cool weather, amusing company (me).

I have acquired some cool leathered motorcycle jackets over the years. I promised myself to wear them some day. But they are too heavy for my wearing. “Motorcycle jackets” is a fond topic of discussion between me and the late Blondie drummer Clem Burke. He graciously included my recording studio image of him in his memoir, “The Other Side Of The Dream: My Life In And Out Of Blondie“.

My Denim Trucker Jackets (above image). Everyone says a denim trucker jacket is an essential fashion arsenal. Which explains my obligatory Levi’s and Lee Rider denim jackets (left two). I acquired the rare Levi’s Engineered jacket (right) from a seller in Poland.

My Casual Blazers (above image). I like to complement my blazers with cool pocket squares. The two denim ones on the sides are Levi’s Mission Denim blazers. The two light and breezy ones in the middle are Uniqlos. I love my Hickorys. I wear these for business seminars and events to show that I’m no longer a 9-5 sort of guy. As I tell my friends, I’ve stopped striving a while ago.

My Work/Chore Jackets (above image). “Work” is clearly a misnomer for this Retyree. Of the four pockets, one is for keeping my pixie dust, to bless (cheer up) people around me.

My “Freak Flag” Jackets (above image). For fun parties, probably in New York City.

My Snazzy Jackets (above image). I will wear these when I’m in my Woodstock/Jimi Hendrix/Haight Ashbury/Carnaby Street mood. I love jackets with elaborate material designs. Some of my jackets still have label tags on them.

May I say that I make my jackets, my jackets do not make me. With the same breath, I make my Cameras look good, they do not make me look good. They are just efficient tools awaiting my next photographic adventures and faithfully capturing my artistic vision.
