I want to pay my Homage to “The King“. JACK KIRBY. For once, not Elvis Presley.
Mr. Kirby is one of the most under-rated comic artist. It’s always Stan Lee who gets the limelight.
I’m here to shine a deserving light on Jack Kirby.
He is, to me, the world’s greatest comic artist of all time. Period.
In the 60’s, Kirby created some of Marvel Comics’ most endearing comic characters – Fantastic Four, Galactus, Silver Surfer, Black Bolt, Gorgon, Medusa, Karnak, Triton, Crystal , Lockjaw, Dragon Man, Black Panther, Thor, X-Men, Iron Man, Ant-Man and countless others.
These characters are the billion-dollar earning movie blockbusters of today.
Please refer to Jack Kirby’s Wikipedia page for an excellent write-up on his life and achievements.
Kirby died in 1994 at the age of 76 in Thousand Oaks, California.
Years ago, I’m lucky to have chanced upon this super rare limited-edition #452/1,000 of “The Art of Jack Kirby” book.
Signed by The King himself!
I also have other Jack Kirby books collected over the years (above image) during my travels. Rare finds indeed.
The above are a series of my favourite run of Fantastic Four comic covers on my wall (above image) – issues 44 to 52 – featuring consecutively the introduction of the Black Bolt and his Inhumans (Gorgon, Medusa, Karnak, Triton, Crystal and Lockjaw), Galactus and his herald Silver Surfer and the Black Panther.
To me, this is Jack Kirby at his absolute creative best.
It’s time to register my thanks to my older brother Eric for introducing me to Marvel Comics. At times I’ll accompany him to buy the latest comics from the Silver Kris comic shack at Marshall Road in Katong.
I want the readers of this Blog to realise the awesomeness of this great comic artist legend!
I salute you, King Kirby!
